Do I need commercially or editorially cleared photos?

Every company has different internal guidelines as to what works for them. We recommend consulting with your own legal counsel if you have concerns about a particular image or use case.

Photos on Twenty20 can be licensed under our royalty-free license for two types of usage: commercial or editorial. The kind of project you’re working on will determine which type of clearance you need.

Commercial: Are you promoting a product or service? This includes images used in advertisements (digital or print), websites, apps, and other places that promote or sell your product. Even if you’re not directly generating income, if the use is promotional in any way, it still falls under commercial use.

Editorial: Photos can be used editorially to accompany internal presentations, news articles, blog or social media posts (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc) where the purpose is solely to inform, educate, entertain, or promote a lifestyle. Photos that are not cleared for commercial use cannot be used to promote a product or service.

Although not required, we encourage users to credit our great photographers. For information on how to credit photographers in editorial posts, go here.
